Improve reliability when connected to a VPN#1819

As a faculty member, I should be able to login and use SmartPass while connected to a VPN with the same reliability as not being connected to a VPN.

When connected to a VPN, I have the following problems whether in app (iOS) or in browser:

  • it takes multiple attempts to login
  • in the Hall Monitor feature, I routinely get “Failed to load” messages and/or stale data. An example of stale data is that a pass has been ended, but it still shows as active, even when I attempt to refresh

This is especially an issue in iOS since VPN split tunnelling is complicated to implement for some reason on iOS (neither NordVPN nor ExpressVPN have been able to yet).
